We will bring our Laoban 1.0 Soundsystem with its new shiny grillz tomorrow. To all DJs and musicians out there (especially good ones!), this is an open call to come on out and plug-in to the speakers. We need you to come out and make some sound, art, and have a big ole green day brainstorm. The whole day is free and open! The entire day is to boycott the Chinese Internet.

To all our Internets Massive! To all Twitteronians, Identicators, Free and Open Source, Creative Commons’d out people in Beijing, or those who just want to have fun, please come out tomorrow for the full day or even just part of it. Matt Hope, Jon Phillips (rejon), Robin, Phil Dunn and so many more will most definitely be on hand to mix, make some projects in realtime and collectively boycott the Internet.

Laoban Soundsystem 2.0 Naked in the Studio: Almost Done!

Laoban half-stack in the factory

Matt and Lujia are down in Guangzhou checking out the progress of Laoban. The project is almost complete. It really just needs the final sponsors to come through, get the lovely chinese broken ice grills, then it will be on a shipment up to Beijing!

The following image is a bit big, but shows the size of half of the stack. Note, there are two columns to the Laoban 2.0. We can of course make more on-demand.

Laoban getting stacked

Remember the original plans.

Laoban Soundsystem 2.0

You can see that the images above are only half of the full stack, and that stack doesn’t have the grillz on the front of the case.

This project in distance fabrication has gone quite well. All the sponsors I think will be quite happy, especially once we start doing events with the Laoban. New sponsors and event promoters please do contact us.

ResourceSpace Plug-ins for EyeCandyNYC

screenshot-eyecandynyc-resourcespace

We did some fun work for EyeBallNYC, a motion graphics house in New York, on an Open Source project called ResourceSpace. Even cooler, is that EyeCandyNYC contributed the code back into the community so others can use it, build upon it, etc. We were the vessel moving this forward. Thanks EyeBallNYC and ResourceSpace!

Here is the text to announce to the ResourceSpace community list:

Hi all, I made some quick infrastructure and plugins for http://eyecandynyc.com
who is using resourcespace internally to manage some client assets.
They wanted to have the default video be quicktime and at the size of
the video they upload since their main clients need high quality video
to see their motion graphics.

Here is an updated plugin set that works quite well and is built for
future extensibility.

http://svn.fabricatorz.com/fab_public/trunk/projects/eyeballnyc/resourcespace/players

It also has a companion plugin which is useful for making the previews
directly show video rather than just the image thumbnail.

Oh, these are built off the work initially discussed here:

http://groups.google.com/group/resourcespace/browse_thread/thread/9186136c388f8321/cd7bacf18748afb2?lnk=gst&q=quicktime#cd7bacf18748afb2

I’m not sure if there is a better place to put my code, or to alert
people about this. I released under GNU LGPL and hope others will use,
add to, send patches, fixes and/or more…thanks to Eyecandy who said
they wanted to give back to the community for this great piece of
software!

Also, I will have another patch to the saved searches to make them a
bit more friendly to appear at least like collections within
collections. Anyone interested in that???

Jon
